Art and totalitarianism are not mutually exclusive. Totalitarian regimes abolish the illusion of revolutionary individual artistic freedom. Neue Slowenische Kunst is based on the principle of a conscious renouncement of personal taste, judgments, convictions. It espouses voluntary depersonalization, voluntary adoption of ideology and the the unmasking and recapitulation of the regime of ultra-modernism
