Laibach performed three short concerts deep underground in the Velenje coal mine, the third concert added due to the high level of interest.
Members of the audience were each equipped with a hard hat and items such as cigarette lighters were banned although at the same time the organisers pointed out the mine was completely free of methane gas and there was no chance of an explosion.
The audience were transported to the pit via the oldest working escalator in Slovenia. In the tunnel there was room for 200, all sitting on wooden benches.
On stage performing were Dejan Knez, Ivan Novak, Luka Jamnik and Saso Vollmayer
The concert was broadcasted live over the internet, it gave some idea of the experience but the sound quality was not good. The video below is a recording from the second concert of the night and the sound quality is a good bit better than the live broadcast.
The concerts were part of the Laibach Kunst installation at the Velenje Coal Mining Museum, part of the Maribor 2012: European Capital of Culture events.
A short visual report by Tomislav Gangl. The live track accompanying the video is Siemens from the historic concert, recorded and edited by Bosko Bursac-Boban.
